I’ve been thinking a lot recently about little ways to encourage my students to think about the beauty of the English language. I came across this little gem and tried it out today with one of my groups.

Place the word “only” anywhere in the following sentence:

“She told him that she loved him”

They really enjoyed “playing” with the language and it even led to a discussion about how the placement may change the tone of the sentence. If you can spare five minutes I’d definitely recommend!

She only loved him

She only loved him…
